Elements of Mediation

Who Is It For?

For those who are new to conflict resolution and mediation, Elements provides a framework and structure to master the essential elements of mediation. Successful participants include students, working professionals and others who are committed to studying and practicing alternative dispute resolution. Participants may be considering second career options, community volunteer opportunities, or any number of other challenges that demand the intellect, creativity, and interpersonal skills of mediation.

How does it work?

Cohorts of 4 – 12 members join together for a two-day intensive workshop that dives deeply into the theory and skills required to attain certification in conflict resolution and mediation. The training covers Creative Mediation’s core curriculum modules, including communication, conflict management, mediation design and facilitation, negotiation dynamics and more.

On Wednesday evening before the seminar begins, participants are invited to attend an optional orientation to meet and greet the trainers and fellow cohort members. Following the two-day seminar, cohorts meet monthly for four months to informally continue their learning and development.

When Is It Offered?

September 29th - 30th 2011

Accelerated Mediator Mentoring

Who Is It For?

Experienced conflict resolution professionals who have prior training and/or experience in alternative dispute resolution are eligible for the Accelerated program. Most participants have worked in the fields of law, management, human resources, counseling and education, or related professions.

How does it work?

Creative Mediation’s Accelerated Mediator Mentoring program provides a unique training and skill development opportunity for prospective mediators who have existing professional training and experience in a mediation-related field. The program is offered on a 1:1 basis or in small groups of 2 – 4, depending upon availability. Participants complete five 90-minute models that provide the foundation for practicing Creative Mediation’s signature dispute resolution model.

Once registration is confirmed, the program handbook and course agenda is distributed for study prior to the first session. Following the opening assessment/simulation, the participant and trainer co-design an individualized learning plan based on competencies that are missing or need further development. Throughout the customized program, participants gain valuable continuing education, insight and specialized coaching through one-on-one and small group instruction and practicum experiences. Individuals who complete the program improve their knowledge, skills and abilities as mediators and are better prepared for career transitions into the field of ADR.
